  • Garden Work Session Thu. 2:45 - 4:00 - Community Service hours will be awarded. See Mr. Smith or Mr. Grogan to let him know you can help out


  • A World of Difference Students will be meeting this Friday the 19th in the art room during active study.


  • Memorial Day Poem Wanted: We seek a poem to be read on Friday, May 26th. The poem will be posted on our school's blog and read aloud. The poem theme is "The Meaning of Memorial Day." Please email or give a copy to Ms. Ortiz elisabeth.ortiz@lssuvt.org.


  • Annual Remembrance Run 5K: June 11th, 9:30am, at PA.  Registration available here.


  • Special Olympics Torch Event: Walk/Run with the torch at SMS during Active Study, Friday, June 2nd.  $20 gets you a t-shirt and allows you accompany the torch around the track.  Turn in money to Mrs. Marshall or the MS Office.


  • Fall sports registration is now open! Please register your athlete by July 1, 2017.  Register info here.

  • Yearbook Ordering DEADLINE is May 26th!!! Yearbooks can still be purchased. Orders can be placed online or you can drop off $20 (cash or check made out to Stowe Middle School) to the office.


  • Band/Chorus Rehearsal - TUESDAY, 9:50-11:15am, mandatory


  • High School Transition Night - Tuesday, the 16th, 6:30pm in the auditorium (for 8th grade parents and students alike!).


  • Stowe Bible Camp Registration open: June 19-23, 9am-12pm, Register here.


OLD

  • Adventures in Public Art Making HDAC Camp: Maisie and Georgia Schnee, together with artist Kelly Holt, are launching a public art project, in our community to activate interest artists in a response to advancements in global warming.  They are leading a camp at Helen Day Art Center in July. If you are interested, please sign up! Join the team and bring a powerful idea to life to share in our community! Campers will get to work in various media and collaborate on something BIG. The group will create a mural responding to the idea of BELONGING. The sky's the limit! In this camp, we will look at what artists are putting out into the world and share ideas of how we respond to art as we live alongside it. Instructor: Kelly Holt

  • Also, you can sign up to help with this project on Beautification Day!  Stay tuned for more details on Beautification Day activity sign-ups. This group will participate in painting part of the canvas!


  • Type 1 Diabetes Presentation: Thursday, May 18th, at UVM, 6:30-8:30pm.  Living well with Diabetes in the Family presentation given by Moira McCarthy Stanford.


  • Call for Substitute Teachers: Do you know someone who might like to be a substitute? If so please contact LSSU and get on the sub list (very easy application packet).  We now use an electronic sub system (AESOP), so you can look at and sign up for vacancies from wherever you are at any time of day.

Community Service Opportunities

  • The Friends of the Stowe Free Library Book Sale July 5th thru July 24th. Your hours can be flexible and we will work with your schedule. We need volunteers to get boxes out of the library basement, via an elevator, to the porch or gazebo, and also to shift boxes around on the porch.   • Leadership/Community Service: 6th/7th Graders interested in helping on 5th Grade transition night on TUESDAY, May 16th at 6:30pm please sign-up outside the office. This is an opportunity to be help teachers tell our 5th grade parents about SMS.

  • Save the Date! 12/16 for the SMS Winter Dance: 6th grade students are sponsoring an SMS Winter Themed Dance on 12/6 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm in the cafeteria. $5.00 admission price.


  • The Global Children's Club is collecting clothing for children in need. There will be a box in the high school lobby the clothing. Donations can be shirts, pants, sweatshirts, winter wear and shoes.

  • Geobee: Sign-up for the Geobee is open and posted outside of the office.  The Geobee will be on Friday December 23rd.  There are spots for thirtyfive students.  Sign-up and impress your friends with you geographical knowledge.

  • The Refugee Outreach Club is hosting a winter clothing drive! Last donation day will be this Friday, December 16th! Please bring in new or gently used winter coats, hats, mittens, boots, and any other warm clothing to the main lobby or to the lobbies at local elementary schools in the district. All donations will be going to the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program and other organizations with a mission to provide for local New American communities in Vermont.

  • HELP NEEDED WITH THE FRIDAY SKI & SNOWBOARD PROGRAM – Looking for more volunteers to help with the Friday Afternoon Ski and Snowboard Program groups. Whether you can commit to certain days or can be on the substitute list, we need more volunteers to keep the group sizes small (4 – 6 kids per group). Requirements – Attend a mandatory 1-day safety clinic on either December 17th or 18th. You will receive a day pass validated on the Fridays that you attend and a 1-day lift ticket voucher that can be used Sunday – Friday with the exception of some blackout dates and is transferable for family and friends. Program dates are January 6, 13, 20, 27, February 10, 17, and March 10, 17. Please email or call Dot at 253-4154 dot.hayden@lssuvt.org to receive more information.

The course dates are Nov. 29th, Dec 6,13,20. The program is $55 for the public. Free for all Stowe School District Teachers and Staff.  Please contact Sdgdragon@aol.com to register.

Calendars are %15.95 ($16.60 w/tax) 10% of all calendars sold support Heartbeet Lifesharing in Hardwick. Support local art, autism awareness and Heartbeet all at the same time!

  • Buy your Santa's Nice List Raffle to support Stowe Education Fund! Over $2,000 worth of gift certificates, merchandise and gift baskets. Raffle tickets are $20 for one or $50 for three. www.stoweeducationfund.org to purchase tickets.


COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

  • The Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center is looking for student volunteers. We look for positive and engaging people to help with putting up poster in our area, usher events, act as lobby greeters and more. For more information contact Derek Pedersen dpedersen@sprucepeakarts.org or call the box office at 802-760-4634.

  • Osher Lifelong Learning Institute of UVM is looking for a tech assistant to help with two nine week lecture series. The lectures are on Wednesdays at 1:30pm. The tech assistant would help at 12:30pm to deal with DVD, powerpoint and computer technology etc. Winter semester begins in January and the Fall semester begins in September. Contact Millie Marron at the Town & Country #253-7597.

  • Holiday Open House to benefit Stowe Education Fund will take place TOMORROW
    Tuesday, December 6th from 5:00 – 9:00pm at the Mountain Road Market Place.

  • Early Release for all students will take place on Tuesday, December 6th. Students will be dismissed at 11:45.  Lunch will be available. Students who take the Wolcott bus home can be dropped off between Stowe and Wolcott on RT 100 and 15. Students who go to Wolcott Elementary need to be picked up by 12:15.

  • There are extra wreaths from the 6th Grade fundraiser available decorated for $25. Please see Charlene in the HS if you are interested.

    You can now register online for winter sports. Go to the NEW website www.stoweschoolsvt.com, at the top of the page click on Our Schools, go to Stowe Middle, click on School links, then to SMS Athletics, then click on Register for Sports online.
